Sonamarg, Oct 02 (KNO): In observance of Gandhi Jayanti and as part of the national Swachhata Pakhwada initiative, the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) organized a cleanliness drive in the scenic hill station of Sonamarg on Wednesday.
As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the event aimed to honor the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, whose ideals of cleanliness and hygiene continue to inspire generations.
The drive was a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a nationwide movement to create a clean and healthy environment. A large number of volunteers, including local residents, government officials, and environmental enthusiasts, participated in the activity. The team focused on cleaning the popular tourist spots, roadsides, and the banks of the Sindh River, ensuring that the natural beauty of Sonamarg remains intact and free of litter.
Speaking on the occasion, the Sonamarg Development Authority, said, "Mahatma Gandhi's vision for a clean and self-reliant India is more relevant today than ever. Through this cleanliness drive, we aim to not only beautify Sonamarg but also encourage responsible tourism and instill the importance of cleanliness in the minds of visitors and residents alike."
The event was supported by local organizations, schools, and businesses, with many pledging to continue the effort towards keeping Sonamarg clean beyond the Swachhata Pakhwada—(KNO)
